Client Need
Depleted and stretched by the business impact of recession, the global IT leadership team foresaw another big challenge looming on their horizon – digital transformation. To succeed, they realized they had to increase I.T. function capability, have a plan for digital and strengthen the leadership pipeline for a function that would become even more strategically important.
Solution
Working together, we created a four-stage leadership improvement process with four development objectives: improve the global IT function, become a high performing leadership team, develop individual leadership capability and increase their capacity to develop future leaders.
Each stage of the improvement process started with a short leadership masterclass that equipped the I.T. leadership team with new insights, new capability and focused implementation plans. Experiential learning activities accelerated the preparation of targeted action planning and team involvement ensured higher levels of commitment and accountability. Progress against action plans was reviewed at the end of each stage, making a real link between learning and performance.
Impact
The team’s self-assessment rating against all objectives increased substantially. Internal customer feedback about the I.T. function improved significantly within 6 months and a re-test of employee engagement also improved within the same time period. Individual team members reported positively about changes in their effectiveness as leaders and the leadership team made a commitment to sustain learning as an enabler of performance into the future.
Recommendations from the CIO led to further customized applications of the leadership masterclass for other leadership teams across the business
